Martin Marks is a lifelong resident of the Seventh Congressional district. He and his wife, Lori, have been married for twenty years. They live in Scotch Plains, where they are raising their two children, who attend local public schools. Martin Marks is a small businessman and healthcare professional -- a dentist who runs his own practice. He will bring to Washington the perspective of someone who has created and met a budget and made tough decisions in the real world. He will also bring his experience in healthcare to the forefront in the effort to make health coverage more accessible and affordable to all our working families and seniors. Martin Marks is a proven local elected official who has shown what real leadership can do for our community. As Mayor of Scotch Plains for the last eight years, he has led the fight to protect taxpayers while still providing the vital services residents need. As a local official, he has seen how the higher reaches of government force local officials into having to raise taxes. That’s why Martin has also been a statewide leader in the fight to change the property tax system, having testified before the State Legislature calling on them to act, rather than continue to stall, on property tax reform. Martin Marks is also a committed and active community volunteer. He gives his time and effort to groups such as The YMCA, The Public Library and Youth Recreation Programs.
